Gov. Holcomb Not Advancing Indiana Interstate Tolling Plan

Governor Holcomb isn't ruling out the future when it comes to tolling on Indiana's interstate highways.

ACROSS INDIANA — Governor Eric Holcomb announced Thursday to the state's Budget Committee he won't be moving forward with a plan to toll Indiana's interstate highways, as he said the state has more road construction happening now than ever before. In a statement released Thursday, Gov. Holcomb said while he doesn't intend to move forward with the plan, he added there may be good reasons to revisit what he called a "financially sound approach" in the future.

"In the least, I do not want to foreclose a successor from considering tolling as an option for infrastructure improvements," Gov. Holcomb said.

According to Gov. Holcomb, the state's Next Level Connections agreement provides nearly $800 million more for road construction and improvements during the coming years.

The governor added he's directed INDOT to continue assessing all options, including participating in federal programs that would allow the state to preserve the interstate tolling option for the future. The report indicates electronic, non-booth tolling for some interstates.
