James Hinchcliffe Says He Will Not Race In 102nd Indy 500

James Hinchcliffe says the decision was made to stop pursuing options to get in Sunday's Indianapolis 500 after failing to qualify for race.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Just days after James Hinchcliffe failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500, the IndyCar driver has announced he will not be racing on Sunday.

Hinchcliffe made the announcement on his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon, writing in part, "Barring unforeseen circumstances I will not be racing in the Indy 500 this year. The decision was made to stop pursuing options to get us in the race. There really aren't words to describe how missing this race feels."

Rain delays, timing and car conditions seemed to work against him during Saturday's qualifying race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

USA Today reports Hinchcliffe immediately chose to toss out of his first qualifying attempt and jump to the front of the line for a chance to get back in the race, before returning to the pit lane due to feeling a "horrible" vibration in his car.
