Juvenile Swimmer Recovered From Water At Lakeshore Camp Resort

The body of a 9 year-old child was recovered July 12 after going missing while swimming.

The body of a 9 year-old child was recovered this evening after going missing while swimming.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., emergency personnel responded to Lakeshore Camp Resort in Portage, Indiana, after a child was reported missing in the water at the private lake.
Witnesses reported the girl was swimming from the swim platform near shore when she began struggling in the water. Lifeguards were on-duty and immediately initiated a search.
Emergency personnel from multiple departments responded to the area and continued the search.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., a member of Chesterton Fire Department located the missing girl in about 15 foot of water. She was brought to shore and transported to Porter Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

The incident is still under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.

Responding agencies include: Portage Fire Department, Porter Fire Department, Chesterton Fire Department, Portage Police Department, and Indiana Conservation Officers.
