Labor Day 2018 Closures And More

Labor Day closings, warnings and more for the Indianapolis area.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — We're less than a month away from the start of fall, and Labor Day symbolizes the "beginning of the end" to another great summer. As the routine of a new school year starts back up, many schools and businesses get a quick break on Monday, Sept. 3 for Labor Day. Since Labor Day is a Federal holiday, several municipal services and Federal offices will also be closed.

Here's what will be closed across the Indianapolis area on Sept. 3:

  • City offices closed Monday
  • IPS, Carmel Clay, Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern Schools
  • Libraries
  • Costco, and make sure to double-check Sam's Club and other grocery store hours as theirs may be shortened.
  • USPS
  • Republic Trash services (see below)

However, several major retailers and restaurant chains will be open — and many are offering Labor Day deals. According to OpenTable, hundreds of Indianapolis-area restaurants will be open on Labor Day. However, smaller businesses and locally-owned shops may be closed, so it's a good idea to call ahead.
