No Room At Animal Shelter Means 'Tough Decisions,' $5 Adoptions

$5 adoption special runs through Oct. 28 and includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, and heartworm testing.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Indianapolis Animal Care Services (IACS) is out of space and inviting the community to take part in their Clearing the Shelters $5 adoptions event beginning Thursday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 28. Because IACS said they've "exhausted all efforts" in maximizing shelter space, the shelter said they've been forced to start making some tough decisions. Therefore, now would be the perfect time for anyone with room in their home and hearts to take advantage of the shelter's $5 adoption special, or foster an animal.

IACS said each $5 adoption includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations, and heartworm testing.

The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

"Whether it’s short-term fostering or coming in to adopt – we are in desperate need of space. If you can't adopt, there are several other ways to help IACS:

  • Foster: If you'd like to be a foster, fill out a foster application or email Ashley.Temple@indy.gov.
  • Consider other options: IACS said if you are considering surrendering your pet, please consider other options. Learn how Indy CARES - a not-for-profit program run by IACS staff and volunteers - can help.
  • Donate money or supplies: You can find or donate needed supplies on IACS' Amazon wish list for the shelter animals. View how to donate money via Indianapolis Animal Care Services.
  • Volunteer: Or, if you can't foster, adopt or donate, but want to get involved, join the IACS volunteer team, by signing up to become a volunteer online.
