HANCOCK COUNTY, IN — Authorities are continuing an investigation into a Wednesday airplane crash in Hancock County that killed both passengers on board. According to Indiana State Police, an airplane with two passengers crashed into a farm field around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday just north of the Indianapolis Regional Airport. Emergency crews were called to the area of County Road 500 North and 400 West after several people called 911 to report a plane crash, ISP said.
Muddy conditions made it difficult for first responders to get to the wreckage, however once deputies from the Hancock County Sheriff's Office, state police troopers and fire personnel reached wreckage area, they found no crash survivors as both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to ISP. The remains of the two victims were recovered by the Hancock County Coroner's Office, ISP said, adding that their identities aren't being released at this time.
Federal investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were still at the scene Wednesday night conducting an investigation into what caused the fatal crash.
