Rensselaer Man Dies After Falling Through Ice In Jasper County
Officers said another man with the victim tried to reach him but was unable to do so.
JASPER COUNTY, IN — Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of a Rensselaer man who they said fell through the ice Saturday afternoon on a Jasper County private pond. In a release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, officers said Timothy Powers, 48, of Rensselaer and Anthony Ballone, 31, of Jasonville were ice fishing, when both men fell through the ice. Officers said Ballone was able to reach the shore and call 911, and also tried to reach back out to Powers but was unable to do so.
Powers was recovered from the water by Rensselaer Fire Department and was taken to Franciscan Health Rensselaer where he was later pronounced dead, officers said.
