Squared Circle Expo Update

Here is the latest news about the Squared Circle Expo scheduled for May 29-30 in Indianapolis.

A lot has changed in the world since my last update on the Squared Circle Expo. Withe the Coronavirus pandemic and the ban on large gatherings, all sporting and entertainment events are in a holding pattern, including the Squared Circle Expo.

As of right now, the SCE is still scheduled to have their debut event May 29-30 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The two day event will feature an all-star lineup of wrestling guests doing meet-and-greets and photo ops, seminars, memorabilia vendors, Q&A and discussion panels and more, ending with a wrestling event on Saturday night.

The first two waves of wrestling legends included Kane (Glen Jacobs), Rey Mysterio, Christian, Vickie Guerrero, Al Snow, Demolition, Billy Gunn, Darby Allen, the Highlanders, Ted DiBiase, Gangrel, Sammy Guevara, Kevin Thorn, Shark Boy and Brian Knobbs. Since my last update, Jazzy and Jimmy Yang, Arn Anderson, Jerry Sags, Bob Orton Jr., the Boogey Man (Marty Wright), the Headbangers, Duke Droese and Francine were announced as the latest wrestling greats appearing. More names were also certain to be added to this already jam-packed list.

Unfortunately, the world is in a holding pattern now. Despite the uncertainty, the organizers of the Squared Circle Expo have remained busy and are actually probably busier now than ever. Through announcements on SCE social media, the organizers have kept fans updated as much as possible.

The SCE organizers addressed the situation in their latest statement.

We have begun to explore the possibility that the event may need to be delayed a few weeks (or more) from its original scheduled date. As such, we have been in talks with the Wyndham Indianapolis West who have been VERY helpful and cooperative through this time and remain highly enthusiastic about holding the event. Our discussions with the Wyndham have revolved around inquiring for open dates in late June and possibly July that would not conflict with other major wrestling events that could also potentially be scheduled that same weekend. They will be sending us several options later next week and once we have them, our plan is to confer with the already booked talent and their management to see which date would be best for everyone involved should it come to that. While this is still being seen as a last case option, our goal is to keep everything already announced for the show as it already is, if we can at all help it. Should it come down to changing the date, all tickets, hotel rooms, and vendor tables will be automatically transferred to the new date. In the event that a patron can not attend the new date, refunds will be offered upon request. Once again, this is only being seen as a contingency plan at this time.

That is about as informative as they could possibly be. Running an event such as SCE is complicated enough in regular times, but with the immediate future up in the air, it is exponentially more difficult. Many events are already postponed and the SCE might be forced to join that list. All of the events will try to reschedule as soon as possible and that will produce a logjam at venues and with vendors, guests and even attendees. Rescheduling for all will be much more complicated than usual.

With that as is, the fine folks at SCE are keeping everyone updated. A little info from them is reducing confusion and lessening the flood of questions from possible attendees.

We are still two months away from the scheduled dates of SCE and a lot can change. This situation is fluid and seems to be changing by the minute. With the open communication from SCE, I feel confident they are working on the situation and will provide information as it is available.

I am still planning on being in Indy for SCE May 29-30, but I am also prepared to delay the trip if necessary. Either way, I will not miss the debut of SCE. I have been doing monthly updates here and I plan to continue those, but I might pop in sooner with an update if the situation changes.

I can't wait to get ”On the Beat” at the Squared Circle Expo. I look forward to the fun inside the squared circle, replacing the angst in the real world.
