Girl In Critical Condition After Rescue From Merrillville Pool

MERRILLVILLE, IN — A 5-year-old girl remains in critical condition at a local hospital after being pulled from a wave pool in Merrillville. The Times of Northwest Indiana reported Miccia Lee was pulled from the wave pool at Deep River Waterpark around 4:40 p.m. Monday by a lifeguard and a bystander, and was immediately given CPR, Lake County Sheriff's Department officials said.
The Merrillville Police and Fire departments, Indiana State Police and Superior Ambulance also responded to the park at 9001 E. Lincoln Highway, and Lee was taken to St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart.
Sheriff's Department officials said the young girl was later transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Times reported.

The sheriff's Special Victims Unit is investigating, Sgt. Jeremy Kalvaitis said.

According to the news report, sheriff's department officials said their Special Victims Unit is investigating the incident, and anyone with information is asked to call Detective Laurie Reilly, of the sheriff's Special Victims Unit, at 219-755-3355.
