Gun Found In Student's Backpack At Cedar Lake School: Police

Police and school officials are thanking all who reported and quickly responded to the Tuesday morning situation at the school.

CEDAR LAKE, IN — Cedar Lake police said a student was removed from MacArthur Elementary School Tuesday morning after officers responded to a 9:30 a.m. call reporting a student brought a handgun into the school. According to The Times, the handgun was quickly found and confiscated by authorities, Cedar Lake police said.

Cedar Lake Police Chief David Coulson said the situation was handled quickly and safely, crediting the "very good" protocols in place from the police department and the school, The Times reported.

Crown Point Community Schools released a statement that said no threats were made to the school, students or staff, thanking those who alerted authorities and the quick response by law enforcement.
