Mom, Son Killed In Merrillville 'Family Dispute'
The 55-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son were both shot. One person is in custody.

MERRILLVILLE, IN — A 55-year-old Merrillville woman has died, two days after a "family dispute" that also resulted in the death of her 27-year-old son. The Lake County Coroner's office said Candy Marie Halbe was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. Thursday at Methodist Hospitals Northlake in Gary, according to the Chicago Tribune. Son Ryan Halbe, 27, was pronounced dead Tuesday night at a Merrillville hospital.
Police responded to the Halbes' home in the 24000 block of West 61st Avenue Tuesday night and found two people with gunshot wounds, the Tribune reported. The deaths of the mother and son were both ruled homicides.
A suspect who fled the home Tuesday night was later arrested and charges are pending, Merrillville police said.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that a 35-year-old man was in custody in connection with the shooting, accusing of shooting his girlfriend's mother and brother to death in the 61st Street home. The girlfriend and several other people were in the home at the time of the shooting but were not injured, according to the Sun-Times.
The suspect's name had not yet been released as of early Thursday afternoon.
