A 76-year-old man was killed after his car collided with a truck in stop and go traffic near the I-355 exit in New Lenox.

NEW LENOX, IL -- A Northwest Indiana man was killed in a car crash on Interstate 80 in New Lenox Wednesday morning. Illinois State Police confirmed the death of Joseph Tomsic, 76, of Munster in a news release Wednesday night.

An initial investigation indicates Tomsic was the driver of a 2004 Nissan Murano at 8:07 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-80 near the I-355 exit when his car collided with a freightliner truck tractor.

Police said both vehicles were in the westbound lanes when traffic was stop and go due to a police investigation of an earlier accident. Tomsic's vehicle, which was in the left lane, for unknown reasons veered into the right lane and struck the rear of the truck tractor.
