Amazon Releases Final Tally Of HQ2 Bidders

The deadline for governments to submit proposals for HQ2 was last week. Amazon released the results on Monday.

SEATTLE, WA — Amazon received 238 proposals from cities, states, and other governments across North America for the company's HQ2 project. Amazon is promising at least $5 billion in construction investment and to bring 50,000 jobs to the winning location.

According to a map released by Amazon Monday, only six U.S. states did not submit bids: Arkansas, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Vermont.

Indiana's Indianapolis, Boone County, Hammond and Gary are among the spots that submitted bids.

Amazon's main headquarters is in downtown Seattle. Since 2010, the company has vastly expanded its footprint in Seattle, mainly in the South Lake Union neighborhood. Amazon has built a handful of skyscrapers and renovated older buildings and now occupies about 19 percent of all office space in the city, according to the Seattle Times.

Amazon estimates its presence in Seattle has put $38 billion into the local economy. HQ2 will have just as big an impact on whichever location the company chooses.

The company has not picked a place for HQ2 yet, but on Monday advised watchers to "stay tuned" to the company's blog for announcements.
