HAMILTON COUNTY, IN -- While property tax rates in Hamilton County increased faster than the national average in 2017, county residents pay less on property taxes than a majority of counties across the country, according to a new analysis by ATTOM.
The 2017 property tax analysis found that the effective property tax rate in Hamilton County is 0.95 percent.
According to the analysis, the average property tax amount in Hamilton County increased 6 percent in 2017 when compared to 2016, which was higher than the increase in average property taxes nationwide (3 percent). The average annual property tax amount in Hamilton County was $3,072 in 2017 and that figure was $2,893 in 2016.
The 2017 average estimated value of a single family home in Hamilton County was $276,701.
The new tax bill signed into law by President Trump caps the state and local tax deduction, limiting the deduction residents can claim on their tax returns to $10,000. Total property taxes in Hamilton County during 2017 were higher than 2016 at $272,068,743 compared to $252,158,588.

Overall, in Indiana, the average annual property tax amount actually increased 5 percent in 2017 when compared to 2016. The average annual property tax in Indiana for 2017 was $1,413.
Nationwide, ATTOM found that average property taxes for a single family home in 2017 went up 3 percent to $3,399 from the average property tax of $3,296 in 2016.
