Indianapolis Chosen As College Football Playoff Site In 2022

College Football Playoff announces hosting sites for 2021-24 national championship games, which includes Indianapolis in 2022.

Indianapolis is one of four cities that will host the College Football Playoff's national championship game after the 2020-2023 seasons, USA Today reports. Playoff officials announced the selection of hosting cities Wednesday, and Lucas Oil Stadium will be the venue for the January 2022 championship game. USA Today reports this will be the first time in the "modern history" of college football its national title will be won at a location outside the South or West.

Indianapolis is one of three first-time locations chosen for the championship event, as Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida will host the Jan. 2021 game, Los Angeles will host at the new stadium that’s currently under construction at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California, and NRG Stadium in Houston in Jan. 2024.

USA Today reports Playoff officials site Indy's frequent hosting role for the NCAA’s Final Four and the Super Bowl, as well as the Big Ten’s football championship, and domed stadium when it comes to typically cold January temperatures.
