Indianapolis Man Not Guilty In Boy's Murder, Still Gets 20 Years

An Indianapolis man still gets 20 years behind bars in Kentucky, although he wasn't found guilty in a young boy's 2016 murder: Report

An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 20 years behind bars even though he was found not guilty for murdering a young boy two years ago in Kentucky, WIBC reports. The news source reports lawyers for Ronald Exantus say although he did break into a Woodford County, Kentucky home in 2016 and stab 6-year-old Logan Tipton to death while the boy was asleep, Exantus' lawyers argued the fatal stabbing was the result of a psychotic breakdown.

The jury recommended the 20-year sentence as they found Exantus guilty but mentally ill on assault charges, WIBC reports.

"I believe this man to be a coward. I believe him to have literally gotten away with murder," WIBC reports Logan's mother Heather Tipton said at the sentencing hearing Wednesday in Lexington. "I do not understand how a defense team can say before the trial 'yes he did kill Logan Tipton' and then be found not guilty."
