Marsh Closures Could Impact Salvation Army Holiday Fundraising

How you can help the Salvation Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign as fundraising concerns grow over impact of Marsh store closures.

The Salvation Army kicked off their annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign Thursday with a few less kettles and bells across Indiana due to the closing of several Marsh grocery stores. CBS4 reports officials from the SA's Indiana division have expressed their concern that fundraising numbers will be down this year, citing the potential impact of the closing of March grocery stores over the summer. According to the news outlet, statewide red kettles placed outside of Marsh locations helped the Salvation Army raise about $165,000 in 2016.

SA officials say they'll have to depend more on other grocery stores such as Kroger and Rickers and Needlers Fresh Market to help with the fundraising goal.

CBS4 reports the organization's officials say the loss of revenue from March could mean less support for food pantries and shelters, therefore it will be more important now for the public to donate towards SA fundraising efforts.
