Noblesville, Several Communities Sue Drug Companies Over Opioids

Local communities join growing list of governments filing federal lawsuits against companies, distributors over roles in opioid abuse crisis

NOBLESVILLE, IN — AP News reports several more Indiana communities including Noblesville have joined the growing list of governments suing pharmaceutical companies and distributors over their roles in the ongoing opioid abuse crisis. In addition to Noblesville, AP reports Terre Haute and Vigo and Jennings counties have also each recently filed federal lawsuits against more than 20 defendants accusing them of deceptive trade practices, racketeering, fraud and conspiracy to market and distribute opioids unlawfully in their communities. According to AP these defendants include Cardinal Health, McKesson Corp., Purdue Pharma, and Teva Pharmaceuticals, who've denied any wrongdoing.

Other Indiana communities that filed suit include Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Hammond, Bloomington, Columbus, Muncie, New Albany, Jeffersonville, Kokomo and Lake and Monroe counties.

AP says Indianapolis attorney Chou-il Lee tells the Terre Haute Tribune-Star the federal complaints will be consolidated into multi-district litigation in the Northern District of Ohio.
