Body Of South Bend Swimmer Recovered In Lake Michigan

Rahem Mason, 17, had been last seen in Lake Michigan on July 6, authorities reported.

From South Bend PD: The body of missing South Bend swimmer Rahem Mason, 17, has been recovered in Lake Michigan.

Indiana Conservation Officers were contacted this afternoon by the Chikaming Township Police Department in Berrien County Michigan and informed the body of a male matching Mason’s description was found by a member of the public along a beach in their jurisdiction around 12:40 p.m.

Indiana Conservation Officers responded to the scene and positively identified Mason.
Mason was last seen in Lake Michigan near Washington Park in Michigan City, Indiana on the evening of July 6. The official cause of death will be determined by the Berrien County Medical Examiner’s Office, but it is believed to be an accidental drowning.

Assisting in the recovery was the Chikaming Township Police Department, Chikaming Township Fire Department, Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, and Berrien County Medical Examiner’s Office.
