City Of South Bend Announces Traffic Alerts Starting Monday, Oct. 26

A portion of LaSalle Avenue will be restricted to two lanes of traffic, and the intersection at Portage and Elwood avenues will be closed.

The City of South Bend Department of Public Works announces the following traffic alerts beginning Monday, October 26, weather permitting.

LaSalle Avenue
Beginning Monday, October 26, LaSalle Avenue from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Niles Avenue will be restricted to two lanes of traffic. Crews will be installing panels on the north side of the Commerce Center development. The restriction will be in effect until Monday, November 16.

Portage & Elwood Avenues Intersection
Also on Monday, October 26, the intersection at Portage and Elwood avenues will be closed for Indiana Michigan Power to install an electric transmission system. Northbound traffic on Portage Avenue will detour east on Angela Boulevard, north on Riverside Drive, then west on Woodlawn Boulevard before rejoining Portage. Southbound traffic will detour west on Bulla Street, south on Wilbur Street, east on Vassar Avenue to Diamond Avenue before rejoining Portage Avenue. The intersection is expected to reopen Monday, November 9.
