Crews Respond To Fire Reported At St. Joseph County Jail
Crews are working to air out the building.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, IN — South Bend Fire Department crews responded to the St. Joseph County Jail after a report of smoke seen in one of the housing units late Monday morning. WBND reported a contractor saw smoke in that area, and it was reported around 11:30 a.m. According to the news report, the inmates in that unit were relocated after the smoke was discovered.
WSBT reported that according to the fire department, an inmate started a fire on a pile of items. However, an evacuation was not needed.
Although crews didn't find a fire, they are working to air out the jail building
