Indiana Teen Hit By Bullet Likely Fired As Firework Dies

The 13-year-old had been in critical condition after he was hit by the bullet over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

HAMMOND, IN — An Indiana teen who was hit by a falling bullet that someone nearby fired into the air over the Fourth of July holiday weekend has died nearly a week after the incident, police said.

The incident happened last Saturday as a group of boys were playing basketball outdoors around 9:30 p.m.. The 13-year-old boy who was struck by the bullet suddenly fell down and witnesses on scene initially believed the boy might have had a seizure and called for an ambulance.

Police say the bullet was likely fired into the air like a firework. The teen was identified as Noah Inman, ABC-7 Chicago reported.

"The Hammond Police Department would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to the Inman family. We wish you peace to bring comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. Our hearts go out to you in your time of sorrow. When reason fails, pray for peace. We will be praying with you," Hammond Police Chief John Doughty said in a statement.
