South Bend Student Alexandria Crayton Receives Community Foundation Lilly Scholarship

John Adams High School senior Alexandria Crayton was recently awarded the 2021 Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The scholarship will cover full tuition, all required fees, and a book stipend for four years to any public or private Indiana college or university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Criteria for selection of Lilly Scholars include academic excellence, leadership, community service, employment history, written essays, personal recommendations, financial need, underrepresentation, and whether the student is the first generation of her/his family to attend college.

"Alexandria has been an exceptional member of our John Adams community," said Principal James Seitz. "We are so proud of Dria for taking advantage of the wonderful opportunities that Adams offer our students. Dria will graduate in June as an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate, prepared to study at the highest level using her globally-minded education. We congratulate Alexandria, her parents Vincent and Amy, and her teachers for this tremendous accomplishment."

Crayton is one of four local residents to be awarded the highly competitive scholarship. Other recipients include Penn High School seniors Jayden Bell and Grace Waddell, and Saint Joseph High School’s Ethan Horvath.

Awarded annually to 143 students throughout Indiana, the Lilly Scholarship is administered by the Independent Colleges of Indiana, along with significant participation from community foundations. This year, the Community Foundation of Saint Joseph County received 98 applications from 12 schools.
