Applebee's To Close Up To 135 Locations: Indy-Area Waits For List

ACROSS INDIANA -- More Applebee's and IHOP restaurants will be closing in 2018, the parent company of the two brands, Dine Brands, formerly known as dineEquity, announced Tuesday, as there are more than 20 Applebee's locations and nearly seven IHOP locations in the Indianapolis area.

In a statement Tuesday announcing its fourth quarter and fiscal 2017 results, Dine Brands said it anticipates that anywhere between 60 to 80 Applebee's would be closing and 30 to 40 IHOP locations would close. The company also said Applebee's franchises are expected to develop 10 to 15 new restaurants, the majority of which are international locations. IHOP is expected to develop 85-100 restaurants, the majority of which are domestic openings.

Dine Brands also announced that its name would be changing from dineEquity effective immediately.
The company did not immediately say what locations would be closing.

"The expected closures will be based on several criteria, including meeting our brand and image standards as well as operational results," the company said.

In August, the company said anywhere between 105 and 135 Applebee's and between 20 and 25 IHOP locations would be closing in 2017. According to Business Insider, Applebee's closed 99 locations in 2017 and IHOP closed 23 restaurants last year.
