Lafayette Police Officer 'Accidentally Shot' By Fellow Officer

Incident occurred why police said a large dog charged at the Lafayette officers.

LAFAYETTE, IN — A Lafayette Police Officer was accidentally shot by another officer Tuesday morning while they responded to a call outside an area residence, several reports said according to police. WTHR reported the officers were investigating a complaint of criminal mischief at an apartment on N. 9th Street between Union and Salem, when a big dog charged at them.

This caused one of the officers to fire his gun, accidentally hitting the other officer in his back.

It's unknown at this time whether the officer who was shot was wearing a bulletproof vest, but he was taken to a Lafayette hospital where he's listed in serious but stable condition.

According to Lafayette police, the area of N. 9th Street between Union and Salem is back open after being closed for nearly 3 hours after the incident.
