Sports Training Facility, Hotel Plans Announced For Grand Park
Former MLB pitcher, hotelier announce plans for new Grand Park facilities: Report

WESTFIELD, IN — A former Major League Baseball player and a local contracting company owner have announced plans to build a training facility in Westfield's Grand Park, IndyStar reports. The news outlet says Ex-MLB pitcher Joe Thatcher, founder of Pro X Development, plans to build a $5 million to $6 million, 62,000-square-foot training facility in the 400 acre park, with Edge Rock Development owner Birch Dalton hoping to break ground spring 2018. According to IndyStar, the new facility would have two indoor baseball fields, a smaller-sized football field, and would sit on the city-owned parking lots west of the Grand Park Events Center.
Dalton is negotiating a deal with Westfield, which owns Grand Park, to lease the land needed to build the facility. IndyStar reports Dalton said the building would be privately owned and taxable, and he hopes to open it in September.
Plans have also been filed by an Elkhart-based developer to build two new hotels and a retail center in Grand Park.
