Transportation Firm To Cut 142 Indianapolis Jobs

MV Transportation Inc.'s contract with IndyGo is set to end in March, eliminating 142 positions, mostly including drivers: Report

INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- A Dallas-based company that provides special services to IndyGo announced its plans to eliminate 142 workers' positions when a contract ends March 31, Indiana Business Journal reports. Several drivers' positions will be eliminated when MV Transportation Inc.'s contract with IndyGo - an Indianapolis public transportation organization - ends. IBJ says MV currently operates IndyGo’s Open Door paratransit service, which provides transportation for people with disabilities throughout Marion County.

In a letter the Indiana Department of Workforce Development received Tuesday, MV said it will permanently eliminate the 142 Indianapolis positions at MV’s local operations are at 5700 W. Minnesota St.

IBJ says MV was one of three companies that submitted Open Door service proposals to IndyGo in the fall, but following a public solicitation process, IndyGo decided to switch to a new vendor.

That new vendor is Silver Spring, Maryland-based Transdev North America, as IndyGo's board of directors authorized a three-year contract with the vendor, plus two one-year renewal options, for an amount not to pass $54.8 million over that five-year period, IBJ reports.

That contract is expected to begin in March, and MV employees will have a chance to meet with Transdev and apply for jobs, as Open Door travels nearly 3.5 million miles and provides more than 300,000 trips each year, IBJ reports.
