Whether you're in it for the beer or the brats, there are dozens of ways to celebrate Oktoberfest 2017 in Iowa.

Are you ready for some schnitzel, HUGE pretzels and Oktoberfest beer? Well, you’re in luck. Fall is upon us and Oktoberfest 2017 celebrations abound in Iowa.

The original German Oktoberfest tradition takes place every year in Munich. It’s a cultural extravaganza, and this year, its celebrating it’s 184th anniversary. Now that’s a lot of beer!

When it comes to celebrating the German tradition in the states, Oktoberfest events in Iowa are famous for paying tribute to the country’s heritage and rich culture, as well as serving up a ton of German food and beer.

2017 Oktoberfests Across Iowa

Northside Oktoberfest, September 30th

  • 300 Block E Market, Iowa City
  • Now in its 22nd year, the Northside Oktoberfest is a commemoration of all things German. With beer from over 50 breweries and almost 500 beers to try, this is a beer drinker's heaven. In addition to beer, there is authentic German food, live music, an area for the kids, and more.

Des Moines Oktoberfest, September 22nd & 23rd

  • 119 4th Street, Des Moines
  • Des Moines' annual Oktoberfest is a celebration of the German spirit and culture. With authentic German food like bratwurst, pretzels, and more, you're sure to leave the event with a full stomach. Wash all that delicious food down with a variety of German inspired brews. After all that, check out the party plaza which is sure to entertain.

Manning Oktoberfest, October 14th

  • Hausbarn Heritage Park, Manning
  • An annual event dedicated to honor the German spirit and heritage, Manning's Oktoberfest begins with a traditional keg tapping at 5:00 PM. After that, live music begins at 7:00 PM and keeps playing until the end of the event at 11:30 PM. Take part in the home beer brewers contest, traditional games, and chow down on a German meal.
