SAINT PAUL, MN — One of the new foods set to make its debut at the 2019 Minnesota State Fair was removed from the list after nearly 4,000 people signed a petition to do so because it used plastic syringes to inject filling into donut holes.

Jason Holtz started the petition asking The Hangar to reconsider its presentation of the Wingwalker Donut Flight — deep-fried cake doughnut holes and three syringes with Bavarian cream, chocolate custard and Minnesota lingonberry jam fillings According to the petition on Change.org, Holtz said “the waste generated over the 10-day fair run (would be) absurd.”

“In addition, the image conveyed by syringes being cool and containing treats, not to mention being littered around on the ground, is not one we should be wanting to promote,” Holtz continued.

State Fair officials listened, removing the Wingwalker Donut Flight from the new foods list and replacing it with a new item from The Hangar called the Tailspin — French-fried onions and house-made coleslaw served on a hash brown waffle and drizzled with barbecue sauce and layered with pulled pork, elote, Oaxaca cheese and peppery spices.

'We understand the impact food packaging has on the environment, and the Hangar (vendor), along with the fair has decided that plastic syringes will not be used as part of the Wingwalker Donut Flight,' the fair said in a statement, KSTP-TV reported.
