May 7, 2021

Motorists heading north on Grand Avenue should expect delays beginning next week. The outer (east) northbound lane from midblock between Ninth and 10th streets to midblock between 10th and 11th streets will close Monday, May 10, weather permitting. The lane will be closed for two to three days to allow construction of clear water diversion subdrains in the area. All northbound traffic will funnel into the inner lane, and motorists should use caution through the construction zone.

The City of Ames has contracted with Keller Excavating to complete the installation of a 6-inch PVC subdrain that will allow improved drainage for the roadway and storm sewer by allowing residents to tie-in their sump pumps. The work will require excavation, trenching behind the curb, and the temporary lane closure on Grand Avenue.

All are encouraged to take note of this construction activity in the area and use alternative routes if available. Motorists should allow extra travel time as delays are likely.
