The bridge replaces the former bridge that was destroyed in a flood event in June 2018. The project was ongoing for more than two years due to approvals needed from both the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Iowa, and plans needed to ensure that the bridge was constructed above 100-year flood levels.

Participants attending the ribbon-cutting event should wear a mask and maintain a distance of at least six feet from others. Those unable to attend may experience the event live through City of Ames Facebook (@CityOfAmes) and YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/AmesChannel12).
