Ames High School Orientation Starts Aug. 12

The first day of school is Aug. 22, but Ames High School students begin orientation Aug. 12.

AMES–The Ames Community School District is providing orientation sessions for its 21st Century Learning Initiative for Ames High School students and their parents or guardians during the week of Aug. 12 through 15, 2013. Students will receive their laptops and accessories at the sessions.

All students and their parents or guardians must attend, and must have completed registration for the 2013-14 school year. Registration for school cannot be completed at the sessions.

The District asks parents and guardians to be prepared to pay a $25 deposit for each high school student receiving a laptop, up to $100 per family. Free and reduced fee eligibility status does not cover this deposit.

The sessions run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Ames High School Auditorium, on the following dates:

12th grade: Monday, Aug. 12.

11th grade: Tuesday, Aug. 13.

10th grade: Wednesday, Aug. 14.

9th grade: Thursday, Aug. 15.

Parents or guardians with multiple high school students or scheduling conflicts may attend the session that works best for them, Director of Technology Services Karl Hehr said.

Ames High School Principal Spence Evans will answer any other questions about the program from students and parents or guardians.
