Fire Damages Ames Garage

Ames firefighters believe a garage fire was caused by burning embers that spread from a recreational fire.

A garage fire likely ignited by a recreational fire caused $8,000 worth of damages early Monday, according to a release from the City of Ames.

Ames firefighters were called to the 600 block of Garnet Avenue about 2:20 a.m. and spotted a fire in a woodpile outside a detached garage.

They were able to extinguish flames quickly and determined that the fire was started accidentally and was probably sparked by smoldering embers of a recreational fire. About $8,000 in damages was caused.
