Girls Literally Rock Out at Summer Music Camp in Iowa

Two dozen girls are rocking out this summer at Girls Rock DSM, a summer music camp in Des Moines.

A summer music camp is giving Iowa girls a chance to rock out and build bonds with other girls in a musical setting.

"I just wanted to try something different, said Olivia Stange, of West Des Moines, who is one of the participants. She is learning drums, piano and guitar, and describes the program as "fun, fun and more fun."

The program is called Girls Rock DSM. It's for girls only between the ages of 10-16 and is being held at Hubbell Elementary in Des Moines.

"Music is a universal way of communicating and getting people connected," Rae Fehring, director of this program she modeled after something similar in Portland, OR, told KCCI.
