Housing Listening Sessions Scheduled

MEDIA RELEASE

AMES, Iowa – The City of Ames Planning & Housing Department is conducting a series of listening sessions to gather public input on specific impediments and barriers to fair housing choices in Ames.  The sessions are being conducted as part of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program and as a five-year update the 2008 Fair Housing Impediments Study.

The five housing listening sessions will be held at  Ames City Hall, 515 Clark Ave.:
·        Noon to 1:30 p.m, Wednesday, Oct 23.  (Room 135)
·        6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23 (Room 135)
·        Noon to 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30 (City Council Chambers)
·        6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30 (City Council Chambers)
·        2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31 (City Council Chambers)

The sessions are part of a Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requirement to conduct an “Impediments to Fair Housing Study” because Ames receives Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. CDBG funds assist low- and moderate-income individuals and families with housing needs. The City has contracted with the Institute for Design Research & Outreach at Iowa State University to conduct the update to the 2008 Impediments to Fair Housing Study.

“Whether you’re impacted directly or indirectly by fair housing issues, this is an opportunity to become more educated on the topic,” said Vanessa Baker-Latimer, Housing Coordinator.  “In order for the City of Ames to better serve the community, participation would be greatly appreciated.”

Any questions should be directed to Baker-Latimer by telephone at 515.239.5400 or by email atvbakerlatimer@city.ames.ia.us.
