Hummus Won't Give These Kids a Pucker Face

Iowa State University researchers teaches kids how to eat and live healthy at wellness camp.

Several kids from Boone, Marshall and Story County are learning about soil, gardens, cooking and food at the table as part of a summer camp, according to this KCCI report.

The hands on approach got the kids outdoors and trying new things. Some even found they liked foods you might not expect a kid to like.

"I used to hate hummus but we made some how made hummus here, and it tasted really good," said Austin Krucich, 10.

It's part of a wellness summer camp at the 4-H center near Madrid that's led by Iowa State University researchers. The researchers are studying childhood obesity and plan to see if habits learned at this camp translates to lifestyle changes back home.
