Independence Day Holiday Closings In Ames

The Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., will be closed on Sunday, July 4, and open regular hours on Monday, July 5.

City Hall and most City departments and divisions will be closed on Monday, July 5, in recognition of Independence Day. Normal operating hours will resume on Tuesday, July 6.

Fireworks will be held after dusk (generally after 9:30 p.m.) on Saturday, July 3, near Jack Trice Stadium. It is important to remember that lighting fireworks within Ames city limits is illegal. Those who are caught exploding fireworks in Ames could face a simple misdemeanor charge with a minimum fine of not less than $250.

The Fourth of July parade on Main Street will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 4. The Fourth of July Community breakfast will not be back this year, and the event is officially retired.

There will be no CyRide service on Sunday, July 4. CyRide will operate a Saturday schedule on Monday, July 5. For more information, visit www.cyride.com

The Community Center and Ames/ISU Ice Arena will both be closed on Sunday, July 4, and open on Monday, July 5. The Community Center’s hours are from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 5. The ice arena’s hours for public skating are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 5.

Furman Aquatic Center will be open on Sunday, July 4. Hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tot time, lap swim, and water walking; and 1 to 6 p.m. for open swim. Municipal Pool will be closed on July 4.

The Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be closed on Monday, July 5.
