KHOI, Ames Host Earth Day Appreciation

KHOI loves Earth Day Appreciation. This programming offers a wonderful way to celebrate the entire natural community of earth.

Through a partnership between the City of Ames and KHOI Community Radio, the second virtual Earth Day event will be broadcast from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. Tune into KHOI-FM Community Radio at 89.1 or stream at www.KHOIFM.org for “Earth Day Appreciation” to hear about sustainability efforts throughout the community.

"KHOI loves Earth Day Appreciation. This programming offers a wonderful way to celebrate the entire natural community of earth that sustains and nurtures us. We encourage everyone to join us and listen in,” said Ursula Ruedenberg, KHOI station manager.

The all-day Earth Day Appreciation radio special will feature City of Ames staff co-hosting with KHOI Community Radio volunteers. Segments will include City sustainability projects, plans, and investments such as Ioway Creek flood mitigation, diversification of the City’s fleet, and rebates to incentivize sustainable choices. Other participants will include experts on all aspects of sustainability from Iowa State University, Ames Community School District, Story County, and other local organizations.

“Remembering Earth Day and its focus on the environment helps us examine the choices we make as individuals and as a community,” said City of Ames Sustainability Coordinator Merry Rankin. “Earth Day presents a great opportunity to educate ourselves on reducing our carbon footprint and understanding our own role in creating a healthier planet.”
