FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Local Non-Profit Receives Donations for 2016 International Peace Walk

2nd Annual Charity Peace Walk in conjunction with UN’s International Day of Peace

AMES, Iowa – Iowa Resource for International Service (IRIS), a nonprofit exchange organization based in Ames, is hosting their second annual International Peace Walk in conjunction with the United Nation’s International Day of Peace. On Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Ada Hayden Park. The International Peace Walk serves as a cultural awareness event and highlights the many humanitarian efforts of IRIS and their alumni around the globe.

On May 26, IRIS received a donation for $500 each from the City of Ames Human Relations Commission for the second year in a row and Ames Kiwanis for the first year, making them both official event sponsors.

The peace walk will provide participants with a cultural exchange experience through international displays along the 3.2-mile trail. Global-minded groups from around Ames will be stationed along the path for participants to engage with in a variety of activities. Egyptian Students Association, Muslim Student Association, International Student Council, Worldly Goods, Ames Public Library and Ames Police Department are just a few of the groups that will be present.

Participation for the cultural event is free and open to the public. Participants will receive a passport at the check-in booth for them to collect stamps at every booth they stop by along the walk and be in the drawing for fun prizes. If you would also like an event t-shirt and gift bag, participants simply need to register ahead of time and secure a minimum charitable contribution pledge to go towards the IRIS Global Grants and Scholarships Programs.

In addition to the Ames Human Relations Commission and Kiwanis, other local groups will be sponsoring. For a full list of sponsors, or for more business sponsorship information, visit our website at www.iris-center.org/ipw or email IRIS at events@iris-center.org.
