Man Charged With Felony Assault
Vonzell Osburn chocked woman when she tried to call 911 for help, police said.

A 33-year-old Ames man was charged with willful injury, a class D felony, and obstruction of emergency communication on May 21, for choking his girlfriend when she tried to call 911, according to criminal complaints.
Police went to an Ames home early May 21, after two 911 hang up calls and a woman answered the door, complaints said. Police saw red marks on one side of her neck and noticed that her skin was torn off and bleeding, according to criminal complaints. The woman later told police that Vonzell Osburn grabbed her throat when she tried to call 911.

Osburn remains in the Story County jail on an $8,000 bond.
Class D felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison. Â
