Meet an “Amazing” Where Sports & Volunteering Go Hand in Hand

Carroll Marty, 82, has an unparalleled love for badminton but that's not all.

Carroll Marty, age 82, has an unparalleled love for badminton - which he says is the fastest racquet sport. A really good player can make that birdie fly at over 200 miles per hour.

Carroll is the current Badminton Director for the Iowa Senior Games, in which he has participated and won medals steadily starting in 1995. Since his retirement as a life insurance salesman, however, Carroll has done far more than advocate for badminton. He’s known as a “you-can-count-on-him” volunteer, who enjoys, as he puts it, “building things.” He built the disc golf course in Ames, constructed and painted more than forty award stand blocks, a climbing wall, a torch holder, and more. His key to happiness and longevity? “Just keep moving!”
