Mid-Iowa Community Action will be administering the Iowa Individual Assistance program for Story County residents who suffered storm damage since May 19.
Story County was included in a recent disaster declaration Friday May 31, primarily for flash flooding. But anyone who suffered damage caused by high winds could also be eligible for assistance.
The individual assistance program provides grants of up to $5,000 for households at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. (That's a maximum annual income of $47,100 for a family of four.)
Eligible purchases include home and car repairs, clothing, food and the expense of temporary housing.
To apply for the Iowa Disaster Assistance Grant, visit the MICA family development center on 230 SE 16th Street, Ames or call (515) 956-3333. A copy of the application is available at: http://www.dhs.state.ia.us/Consumers/Assistance_Programs/CashAssistance/DisasterAssistance/StormHelp.html
People will need to bring proof of income, photo identification for all adults in the household, and a copy of their homeowners or renters insurance. Applicants must file within 45 days of the governor’s disaster proclamation which was issued for Story County on May 31.
