Parks & Rec Offers Marathon Training

Ames club prepares runners for marathon.

Anyone who can easily run six miles without stopping is invited to join Ames Parks & Recreation's running club.

The group is training for the Des Moines Half Marathon or Full Marathon held on Sunday, October 20, 2013.

This training group is designed for people who have been running for at least 6 months with weekly mileage of 15 or more miles per week and can easily run 6 consecutive miles without walking, according to a release.

The club will meet twice a week for 15 weeks for group runs, provide encouragement and coaching and hold information sessions specific to endurance running. 

Participants will receive a training calendar, a t-shirt and accountability.
The class meets 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and 6:30 p.m. on Saturdays around Ames from July 9 to Oct. 20. Call Nancy Shaw at 239-5353 for more information.
