Seasonal Blue Moon Seen Tuesday in Ames

The third full moon of the season rises tonight.

Ames area residents should have no problem seeing tonight's blue moon.

Skies above Ames are expected to be clear through 3 a.m. according to the latest forecast from Weather.com.

The moon will begin to rise about 7:40 p.m. and reach a peak about 8:45 p.m. central time.

It's a seasonal blue moon, the third in a season rather than the second in a month, according to Weather.com

The Washington Post calls this an alternative blue moon.
