Stash the Trash is planned for Friday, April 9, and Saturday, April 10. Unlike in previous years, the event will not start or end at Reiman Gardens. However, garbage and recycling bins will be available in Parking Lot S5, between Reiman Gardens and Jack Trice Stadium, from April 9-11 for disposal of collected trash.

The Resource Recovery Plant (RRP) will be processing the garbage from this event. The RRP accepts and sorts trash from Ames and the surrounding communities in Story County. Metals are extracted and sold for recycling. The remainder is shredded by machines, and the burnable portion becomes Refused Derived Fuel (RDF). RDF is piped to the City's power plant and used with natural gas to generate electricity.
