Structure Fire In Ames Single Family Home

The Ames Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 10:43 a.m. today (Thursday, March 25) at 305 Topaz Court.

The Ames Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 10:43 a.m. today (Thursday, March 25) at 305 Topaz Court. The caller reported flames and smoke coming from the home’s furnace. Ames Fire crews arrived on scene to smoke coming from the roof of the home.

After confirming everyone was out safely, fire crews entered the home’s basement and made an initial fire attack. Ames Fire crews from all three fire stations assisted with fire extinguishment as the fire had extended into some of the floor joists and walls of the home.

The house sustained heavy smoke damage throughout, with extensive heat and fire damage to the basement. The cause of the fire was attributed to a furnace malfunction. No injuries were reported. Damage to the structure is estimated at $100,000.

The Ames Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke detectors every month. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
