Sweetcorn Seller, Sculpts Furniture to Fit

The man who sells sweetcorn at 13th and Grand has another unusual job.

A Colorado man who spends his summers selling sweetcorn at 13th Street and Grand Avenue told the Ames Tribune of his other perhaps more unusual job.

Kevin DesPlanques spends the cooler months of the year in Colorado where he sculpts furniture to fit its buyer.

DesPlanques sculpts items such as custom rocking chairs from wood.

“As a sculptor, I will shape (the piece) to fit the person perfectly,” he told the Tribune. “I want to make sure it fits in all the right places.”

The sculpted works are not your standard country rockers. They are made from exotic woods and curve in the right places.
