1 to 2 p.m. Monday Ames Public Library

Non-native speakers are invited to come practice their English speaking skills with staff and volunteers.

Food in the Gardens

6 to 8 p.m. Monday Reiman Gardens, 1407 University BLVD.

Chefs and nutrition experts will teach participants how to make healthy dishes using foods grown in the garden.

Tech Talk

2 p.m. Tuesday Ames Public Library

Participants will learn how to check out free e-books and audiobooks with mobile devices.

The Hobbit

4 p.m. Wednesday Ames City Auditorium, 520 6th Street.

Teens are invited to come watch “The Hobbit” at the City Auditorium as part of the Ames Public Library's movie showing.

North Grand Farmers' Market

3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday North Grand Mall

Central Iowa Symphony Pops Concert

8 p.m. Thursday Durham Bandshell, 6th Street & Duff Ave.

Free performance by the Central Iowa Symphony.

Reiman Gardens After Hours: Tomato

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday Reiman Gardens, 1407 University BLVD.

This live music event is open to guests 21-years-old and older.

Sales Tax Holiday

The sales tax holiday for back to school items is Friday and Saturday Aug. 2 and Aug. 3. No sales tax will be collected on clothing or footwear that costs $100 or less. For more information visit http://www.iowa.gov/tax/educate/holiday1.html
