There will be lane closures on Lincoln Way between Welch and Hayward Avenues beginning on Wednesday, July 24, for water service transfers and infrastructure improvements. The project is anticipated to be complete by Aug. 7, weather permitting.

The City of Ames has contracted with Jet Drain to do surface restoration and water service transfers in order to abandon a water main originally installed in 1908. The project requires closure of the inside lane of westbound traffic on Lincoln Way, along with closure of the turn lanes, between Welch and Hayward Avenues. Eastbound traffic will remain two lanes. The Lincoln Way intersections with Welch and Hayward will remain open for north-south traffic. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and expect delays when traveling through the construction zone.

Minor sidewalk replacement will take place in areas where water service connections will be made. Jet Drain will work with area businesses to coordinate the day and time to transfer their water services. The parking meters along Lincoln Way from Welch to Hayward Avenue will be closed during construction.

Concerns should be directed to City of Ames Civil Engineer Hafiz Ibrahim via email at aibrahim@cityofames.org or phone at 515.239.5245. For general construction updates, go to www.CityOfAmes.org/Construction
