9. One Ankeny baseball player could be representing Team USA in the International Baseball Federation World Cup in Taiwan. Keaton McKinney, a junior, is one of 40 on the roster on the 18-and-under squad.

8. Park Drive east of Grand Avenue is now Chow’s Olympic Avenue to honor the West Des Moines gymnastics coach who helped Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas win Olympic gold medals.

7. A five-car crash is pretty rare, but what may be more unusual is that all (thankfully) seem to be OK. That's the case from a wreck in Urbandale.

5. Waukee Patch reports the Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior OK'd the Alice’s Road/105th Street interchange project. It is “not likely to adversely affect” the endangered Indiana bat, they say.

4. Marion has a "true sense of togetherness" one family said in a Family Circle feature. The magazine selected Marion to its list of 10 best towns in America for families out of a list of 3,335 communities with populations between 10,000 and 150,000 people. 

3. Ames Patch reports that former Iowa State Cyclones Chris Babb and Will Clyburn appear to have signed with teams after getting passed up in the NBA draft. Babb says he was signed by the Phoenix Suns, and Clyburn said he will tryout with the Sacramento Kings. 

2. Iowa City Patch caught up with a lesbian couple (happily) celebrating their wedding anniversary at a rally on the same day the U.S. Supreme Court ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional.
